Remsen St. Mary’s Catholic Schools are fully accredited and offer a rigorous private school education beginning with preschool and transitional kindergarten and continuing through 12th grade.
Our educational system helps each student to gain a broad base of knowledge and experience across all curriculum areas. In order to prepare individual students to be citizens of a global community, we stress effective communication, physical well-being, advanced technological skills, responsible decision making, higher-level thinking, individual creativity, and the ability to access and interpret information. Since education is ongoing, we approach these essential skills as part of a lifelong process.
We have two buildings: the grade school at 321 Fulton St. and the middle school/high school a couple of blocks away at 523 Madison St. Our 2024-25 enrollment is 204 students, with an average class size of 13 students. Meet our faculty and staff here.
Our school day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday. Every other Wednesday, our teachers have professional development and school gets out at 1:15 pm. Our 2024-25 school year calendar can be found here.
Grade School
The preschool and grades K-4th grade spend most of their day in the grade school building, next to the church. The five standard subjects of reading, language arts, social studies, science, and math are taught--in addition to religious studies. Specials include art, music, PE, and computer class. There's a daily recess and a mass once a week, usually on Wednesdays at 8:15 am. Grade school students walk to lunch at the middle/high school every day and are bussed there when the weather is rainy, snowy, or too cold.
Middle school
Our 5th-8th graders reside on the first floor of the building at 523 Madison Street. Middle school students have a homeroom teacher and switch rooms and teachers every 40-minute period. In addition to reading, language arts, social studies, science, math, and theology, middle schoolers have Exploratory, which is a quarterly rotation of industrial arts (shop), computer class, and STEM class. Middle schoolers also take music and have the option of participating in concert band or choir. They have PE class twice a week. 8th graders take speech/drama and participate in the annual Diocesan speech contest.
high school
9th-12th grade classes are on 2nd floor of the building at 523 Madison St. A complete course description book can be found here.
